Simple things to be thankful for.

November 16, 2022

"Comparison is like a moving airport sidewalk—it whisks you 50 yards away to a state of discontent before you’ve even taken a step. Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” And if that’s true, comparison equally steals contentment, too.

Contentment, or choosing to be happy with what you’ve got, is all about learning to live in a state of gratitude even for the small things. Spending just a few seconds each day thinking about the things you’re grateful for can radically shift your mindset. If you’re having trouble finding something to be grateful for, no worries—we have a list for you:

Your Home

  • For the warm, dry place to eat, build memories, and sleep.
  • The clothes and shoes you wear to keep your body safe from the elements.
  • Food to eat.
  • Electricity and for living during a time when it exists.

Your Family

  • Your kid(s) and the richness they add to your life.
  • Watching your kid’s personality develop.
  • The moments when you notice your kid make a brave and kind choice.
  • Heart-to-hearts with your teen.

Your Best Self

  • Your talents and personal strengths.
  • The fact that you’re the best parent for your kid.
  • Your body’s 100% success rate of getting you through every single day.
  • Good hair days

Your Community

  • Your childhood friends.
  • The friends you’ve made as an adult.
  • Therapists.
  • Facebook groups that make you feel less alone.

Your Simple Joys

  • A clean kitchen and an unloaded dishwasher.
  • How pretty Christmas lights are.
  • The first warm day of spring.
  • Watching your favorite team win a game.

These are just a few suggestions to get your mind primed for gratitude because more often than not, it’s the small things that fill our days with meaning."  ~Parent Cue.
