I Believe-Jesus The Returning King

May 1, 2022

Main Idea: Jesus taught that he would return one day to fully redeem this world and to overcome injustice. What does that mean for my life?

“Jesus ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God almighty.” Apostle’s Creed.

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? Acts 1:9-11

What can we learn?

1. Jesus is the ___________ King.

● Jesus is your Advocate!

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

“He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God almighty.” From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.” Apostle’s Creed.

What can we learn?

1. Jesus is the ascended King.

2. Jesus is the ___________ King.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. Thessalonians 4:15-17 (NLT)

Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory. 28 So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!” Luke 21:27-28 (NLT)

“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. Matthew 24:36 (NLT)

The ascension matters for our salvation because if Jesus’s sacrifice is to be effective and his kingship is to be real and his humanity is to be glorified, he must be ascended. Tim Chester

How do I apply this?

1. ______________ for the King.

When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 20 And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs. Mark 16:19-20

● When our heads are too full of “future things” often our lives are too empty in living the “right now things.”

● When our lives are too full of the “right now things” often it’s easier to lose focus of the “future things.”

Live for Jesus NOW with an understanding of Jesus THEN.

Today’s application:

1. What is one thing you can do to ___________ in your understanding of Christ’s ___________?

2. What is one thing you can do to ___________ Christ as King___________?
