I Believe--Jesus Our Greatest Advocate

April 24, 2022

“He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God almighty.” Apostle’s Creed.

● What is the Apostle’s Creed?

● What does it mean that Jesus ascended?

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven,” Acts 1:7-11

What we need to know about Jesus’ ascension:

1. Jesus is the _______________ King!

After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Mark 16:19

● “He was taken up in glory.” Timothy 3:16

● “God exalted him to the highest place.” Philippians 2:9

● “All things were put under his feet.” Psalm 110:1

“The resurrection is one part of this great vindicating act — an act that also involved being highly exalted and bestowed a name that is above every name. Jesus is seated above all rule and authority and power and

dominion because that’s what it means to be the king of everything. That’s what it means to be the true Son of Man.” Jonathan Parnell

What we need to know about Jesus’ ascension:

1. Jesus is the ascended King!

2. Jesus is your greatest _______________.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1

Condemnation is rehearsing and reliving what has already been forgiven in Christ.

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? Romans 8:34-35

Today’s application:

● We need Jesus’ advocacy in handling _______________.

● Where do I most need Jesus in overcoming condemnation?

“At your right hand may be your greatest accuser, but at God’s right hand is your greatest Advocate.”
