Push Through

There is that moment in life where you want to give up or tap out but you know that you can't.  Do you know what I'm talking about?

You are studying for the big exam tomorrow and you are so tired your eyes can't focus.  You feel like giving up but you have to get a good grade.  So, you push through.  You have put in weeks for this new client and at the last minute, more changes.  'Really?'  You begin to wonder if it's worth it but you've invested too much time and you've risked too much.  So you push through.

You are in the middle of a brutal workout and your muscles are screaming, 'just quit'.  You know you've come too far and accomplished too much to give in to the urge.  Besides that, the guy next to you isn't giving up.  So, you push through!  'Are you with me?'

It's those moments in life that many of us have come to learn that you don't give up.  You don't quit.  You don't run for what is easy or comfortable.  There is something great that happens when we push ourselves to finish and to keep fighting.

I believe that element of character is worked into our DNA by our creator.  In fact, we are encouraged over and over again to push through.  Look at this:

Consider it a sheer gift, my friends when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure your faith life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely.
— James 1:2-3

In other words, persevere.   Fight.  Engage.  Push through!

Let it do it’s work so you become mature and well developed, not deficient in any way.
— James 1:4

No one wants to lack.  No one wants to be deficient.  So, whatever you are wanting to NOT push through in life, can I encourage you to keep pushing?  Keep fighting.  Keep persevering with the strength that Christ freely gives.

I believe that as a church, we are in one of those 'keep pushing' moments.  As many of us are still feeling some of the impact of Irma, it's easy to want to stop.  Stop serving.  Stop giving away my time.  It's so easy right to allow 'compassion fatigue' to set it and assume someone else will care for those who are still hurting.

Listen to me friends, it's NOT the time for us to stop.  It's time for us, for a little longer, to push through as a church.  I'm challenging you to push!  To show Jesus.  To see what God still wants to do.  To allow God to grow you, to grow me and to grow our church.

Here's how.  We have 3 more opportunities in the next two weeks to serve our community.  Outreaches we need to push through.  This Sunday is our Trunk N Treat.  Please don't miss the opportunity to care for families with something as simple as a smile, a handshake, and decorated cars.  It's easy but so impacting.  Push through and sign up today.

Then we wrap up our larger events for #IrmaRelief next Saturday, November 4th.  That day we will cross the finish line together and serve two of our local schools.  Sign up for the harvest festival as Bonita Springs Charter School throws a party for their families.  Come serve families through games, prizes, and fun.  Or you can sign up for Oak Creek Academy if you want to work hard installing drywall.  Their building was damaged during Irma and we want to show kindness and love to this school through hard work.

And when we push through that, then it's time to party!  It's time to celebrate.  It's time to step back, just for a moment, and see what God has done in our church and community.   Come enjoy our blow out party on our Year 2 Anniversary.  That will be a time to breathe!

But right now, it's time to push!  So, will you push?  Will you finish?  Can we do it together and see what God does in us, our church and in our community?
